Plex Powers its TVOD and PVOD Services with Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder Running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Vienna, Austria, August 28, 2025 - Bitmovin, a leading provider of video streaming infrastructure and an Oracle partner, today announced that Plex, a US-based global streaming platform with more than 25 million users, has selected Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to power its transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) and premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services. Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder supports Plex’s business goals to scale its premium content library and increase revenue streams, while maintaining exceptional video quality and robust content security.
To deliver premium content efficiently, Plex required an encoding solution that could deliver superior visual quality, reduce content delivery network (CDN) and storage costs, and offer advanced security features, such as forensic watermarking. Plex selected Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder for its advanced capabilities, including its Per-Title Encoding solution, to create efficient adaptive bitrate ladders, flexible deployment through its connected cloud feature, and streamlined integration with OCI. The encoder’s ease of integration and minimal setup requirements enabled Plex’s engineering team to deploy it quickly and focus on other high- priority projects.
“Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder is a key component in our video streaming workflow, ensuring that we can securely encode content at the highest visual quality while keeping operational costs under control,” said Scott Olechowski, Chief Product Officer at Plex. “Running on OCI, Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder’s Per-Title Encoding allows us to create highly efficient adaptive bitrate ladders that improve visual quality for viewers even at lower bitrates while significantly reducing CDN and storage costs. Bitmovin has been a strong technology partner throughout the process, and we are very pleased with the results.”
By using Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder on Oracle Cloud, Plex has achieved a 23% reduction in CDN distribution costs and a 55% reduction in storage costs. With a scalable, cloud-native architecture, Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder ensures Plex can continue to deliver premium content efficiently while scaling to meet future growth and viewer demand.
“We’re proud to support Plex in delivering premium content at the highest visual quality while achieving meaningful cost savings,” said Stefan Lederer, CEO and Co-Founder of Bitmovin. “Our VOD Encoder is built to deliver the highest quality video with the operational efficiency and security that today’s leading streaming platforms require. In addition, with the performance and scalability of OCI, we are able to give Plex the flexibility to meet the demands of its global audience.”
